Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is a dark comedy play that takes place during the story of Shakespear’s Hamlet. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are two characters in the play Hamlet, who are discussing the confusing events that are unfolding before them, the full extent of which they do not know. The two courtiers play the game of Questions and observe some of the more important characters who crash in on their little discussion.
The play, written by Tom Stoppard, will debut in Dubai by the splendid Dubai Drama Group (DDG) as the first of many this season. DDG has been in Dubai since the 80’s and is responsible for some of the finest stage performances in this city.

Think of every exit as an entrance somewhere else….
What happens to two minor characters in a Shakespeare play when they are not on stage? Do they have their own story? Do they simply cease to exist? Or do they remain in limbo, waiting for the story to move on
to a point where they are included again? If they do exist, do they have free will?
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are two such characters. Summoned to Elsinore by Claudius and Gertrude to glean what is afflicting Hamlet
a message, a summons… There might have been a point right at the
very beginning where they could have said no, but somehow they missed it.
This production will be presented at the Kilachand Theatre over the last two weekends of January.
