This April, Dubai Opera will present the west side story 2023. A new international creative team has gathered around the renowned Broadway director and actor Lonny Price. The “Jets,” a street gang from New York, constantly look for their rivals, the Puerto Rican “Sharks,” by provocatively snapping their fingers as they patrol their dusty territory. In the summer heat, fervent Latinas dance to sultry Mambo rhythms, wishing for a better life. Two gangs. One love. An enduring but impossible love – the universal power that made Romeo and Juliet so immortal. It has lost none of its allure and fascination. A great love story that fails to overcome the obstacles that stand in its way. In the 1957 Broadway premiere, Leonard Bernstein, Jerome Robbins, Arthur Laurents, and Stephen Sondheim redefined an entire genre.
Stephen Spielberg’s cinematic work has been nominated for seven Oscars and has taken home one Trophy in 2021. This proves how unique and original this contemporary take on the story of Romeo and Juliet is!
How to reach the Dubai Opera?
Dubai Opera is located in the opera plaza (Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard). It is about a 15 minutes drive from Bur Dubai and Deira region and a 20 minutes drive from the Dubai international airport. You can rent a car or take the metro to experience the safari.
