Shams Dubai – First Smart Initiative – Connecting Solar Energy
This leading initiative, Shams Dubai supports the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the smartest city in the world.
It also supports diversifying the energy mix by promoting the use of clean and renewable energy sources to build a sustainable future for the Emirate. Launching the initiative implements council resolution number 46 of 2014, issued by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, to regulate the connection of solar energy to Dubai’s power grid.

Shams Dubai encourages household and building owners to install PV panels to generate electricity, and connect them to DEWA’s grid. The electricity is used on site and the surplus is exported to DEWA’s network.

How to apply for Solar PV connection?
- Solar – NOC: Enrolled Solar Consultants and Contractors can submit the application to obtain Solar NOC.
1. Login to e-service https://crm.dewa.gov.ae
2. Select “DRRG Solar NOC” - Solar – Design Approval: Enrolled Solar Consultants and Contractors can submit the application to obtain Solar Design Approval and connection charges.

2. Fill the form off-line
3. Apply through the e-mail CS.DesignApprovals@dewa.gov.ae with duly filled templates and necessary attachments. - Solar – Inspection & Connection: Enrolled Solar Consultants and Contractors can track their Solar Design Approval application, make the payment for connection charges and intimate DEWA for the “readiness of inspection” in order to connect generators of electricity from solar energy to the distribution network of DEWA.
