Horse racing excellence awards announcements by H.H. SHEIKH MOHAMMED BIN RASHID AL MAKTOUM will be on held on 23 Mar 2017 in Dubai.

The People’s Choice Award will be open for voting by racing fans via social media and the Lifetime Achievement Award will be decided by a specialist panel.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Horse Racing Excellence Awards seeks to reward the best horse, jockey, trainer and owner through an independent data driven process.

To be eligible candidates must have competed in a race held on the previous year’s Dubai World Cup day.

Super Saturday represents the cut off point for evaluating the annual performances while the raw data is provided by the USA-based Jockey Club, an industry-recognised provider of horse racing statistics and form. All statistics are analysed by Nielsen Sports, the global experts in sports intelligence and measurement.

Thursday March 23, 2017, two days before the 2017 edition of the Dubai World Cup at

Meydan Grandstand and Racecourse, Nad Al Sheba, Al Meydan Road, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY AND THE PROCESS FOR THE SELECTION OF THE WINNERS

The process for the selection of the winners has involved four steps:

1. The Jockey Club Information Systems Inc (TJCIS) (a wholly owned subsidiary of the Jockey Club) has sent monthly data files that contain racing results for the horses that have participated in the Dubai World Cup Day.
2. Meydan has received the files from TJCIS, and transferred the files to Nielsen Sports without processing the files.
3. A committee composed of experts from Meydan and Nielsen Sports have collectively developed the eligibility criteria as well as the scoring model.
4. Nielsen Sports has received the data files from Meydan, and processed the data to determine the winner in each category based on the pre-determined criteria and scoring model.

B. CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY

1. The criteria to select the horse, jockey, trainer and owner to be awarded is purely data driven, based on Group 1, 2 and 3 race data.
2. The primary criteria for eligibility for the awards is that the horses, jockeys, trainers and owners need to have taken part in the races during the Dubai World Cup race day in 2016. The results of all the Group 1, 2, and 3 races that they have participated in the following one-year period are then taken into consideration to determine the winners.
3. The finishing positions of 1, 2, 3 and 4 in any of these races bring points to the horses, and to the jockeys, trainers and owners linked to them.
4. The scoring model developed by Nielsen Sports can be seen in the table below:
