Godart wins Dubai International Triathlon 2015
Dubai, UAE – 14 November 2015: More than 800 professional and amateur athletes took part in the 2nd Dubai International Triathlon, a half iron distance race in Dubai on Saturday 14th November. The race was won by Dubai resident Olivier Godart, representing Luxembourg, in a time of 4:08:39.
Bahrain based pro-athlete Eric Watson took an impressive lead out of the water after the swim leg but was ridden down by Godart and Ryan Christian. Till Schramm moved himself up to second during the final half-marathon run discipline.
Featuring a 1.9km swim, a windy 90km bike ride, making use of the Al Qudra Cycle Track, and a testing 21.1km run around Dubai International Endurance City, the race certainly tested endurance and mental discipline.
Competitors flew in from all over the world to experience the race; coming from as far afield as Uganda, Germany, Singapore and Australia. The race is proving to be a major feature on the international triathlon circuit. More than 100 teams also took part in the event, allowing seasoned athletes and first timers alike to participate, share in the atmosphere and the tremendous sense of achievement a middle distance triathlon offers.
The race was organised by Race ME and endorsed by the Dubai Sports Council without whose support the event would not have been possible. The backing of the Event’s Security Commitee, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police has also been integral from the design of the route to ensuring the athletes’ safety with road closures.
“This year’s race featured an exciting new venue, a challenging bike course and a split transition. The windy weather made the race particularly difficult with choppy water during the swim and a punishing head wind for most of the ride. All athletes were pushed to their physical and mental limits.” Commented Paul Venn, Director of Race Me. “This event grows in stature each and could not happen without the government support. The Dubai Sports Council, The Dubai Police and the RTA, continue to deliver world class events further cementing Dubai’s position as an international Sporting Centre”.
