Al Hira- A Glimpse
A 410-year-old ancient village in Sharjah, has been brought back to life to give tourists a look at life four centuries ago in the emirate. Al Hira was founded in 1613, the year the Al Qawasim clan came to this village by the sea also wealthy citizens of the town included authors, poets, and philosophers. The rehabilitation of Sharjah’s historic town of Al Hira, which dates back four centuries, has begun with the goal of increasing cultural tourism.
Restoration of Al Hira- an ancient town
His Highness Sheikh on Wednesday, Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah launched the initiative to revitalize the historic town of Al Hira in Sharjah. Upon His Highness’s visit to the Al Hira region, he presented a plaque commemorating the founding of the town of Al Hira four centuries ago in 1613 AD, when Al Qawasim landed in Sharjah. Following that, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah dedicated the residence of Sultan bin Abdullah bin Majid Al Owais, which spans 900 square meters, to Al Hira Literary Majlis.
Unveiling of the Mosque
His Highness unveiled the Sultan bin Abdullah bin Majid Al Owais Mosque, proclaiming its official inauguration, and listened to an explanation of the mosque’s reconstruction specifics. Also, the houses of Sultan bin Abdullah bin Majid Al Owais, Hamid Khalaf Bu Khasrah, and Khalifa Sultan Al Suwaidi are part of the revitalization initiative for Al Hira’s old town.
Poetry Center of Nabati
Al Hira was the center for the development of Nabati poetry in the United Arab Emirates, hosting poetry meetings and literary events. Al Hira is a hub for the advancement of the UAE’s illustrious Nabati poetry culture. Poetry parties, talks, and literary activities were held in Al Hira.
