Dubai Sports City Swimming Academy, with its impressive Amateur Swimming Association-accredited coaching facilities, is expected to play a large role in the UAE’s efforts to successfully host both the 2010 FINA World Short Course Championships and 2013 FINA World Swimming Championships, it was confirmed today.
The launch of the Dubai Sports City Swimming Academy is scheduled for October this year; however, the facility has already been well received by the world’s elite swimming fraternity, many of whom backed Dubai over Moscow and Hamburg in the bidding process for the 2013 World Swimming Championships award.
“Both the 2010 and 2013 FINA swimming events are huge news for Dubai and Dubai Sports City’s Swimming Academy will be proud to play a support role in the lead up to both events through teams’ use of our outstanding international caliber facilities,” said Jeff O’Brien, Academies Manager, Dubai Sports City.
The Dubai Sports City Swimming Academy includes an Olympic-size 50 metre pool which can be transformed into two 25 metre short-course pools, with VIP areas and spectator seating. The first-of-its-kind facility will have state-of the-art video analysis software and a camera system in the pool to allow coaches to provide instant advice to swimmers.
Visiting international teams will also have access to dry side training equipment, recovery facilities and the Hi Performance Centre within the campus to complete their training environment. With the facilities on offer, the Swimming Academy is expected to serve as a training and holding camp venue for international squads.
