Prax’s Chinese Restaurant Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Review
We have been following Prax’s on different social platforms from quite sometime, the reason being we love anything which involves chinese cuisine and this time it was noodles 😉 We were super duper excited to get an invite from Prax’s.
Prax’s is a charming cute small wok-style Chinese and Thai joint located on Jumeirah Beach road close to Mercato Mall, it soo small i bet you ll miss seeing passing by it in the afternoon but in evening it’s unconventional color scheme and bright neon signboard lights will get your attention. Being a small place, it usually caters more to delivery orders and take aways, but if you are a dine in kind of a foodie then fikr not they have recently opened a new bigger branch at i-Rise Tower in TECOM (now known as Barsha Heights).
But when we were invited few weeks back there was only one branch where we were invited although we like the concept of chinese takeaways but this time we opted to dine in. They have few seating area outside the restaurant but being summers we decided to stay inside sitting on a bar like stool congested but was manageable place. The staff welcomed us with an open smile and our server was very polite in explaining us the whole menu. Basically you can choose from the ala carte menu or guests can mix and match menu combinations for maximum flavour satisfaction and is called go “freestyle”. Prax’s menu allows you to put together ingredients and create our own unique combination. This can be done in 5 easy steps- choosing a base (mainly noodles, rice or vegetables), protein (tofu, chicken, beef or prawn), sauce (6 variations to choose from), toppings (lot of options to choose from) and garnishings (6 options to choose from).
Prax’s is already quite popular with Dubai foodies who flock here for cuisine that’s fresh and see their food being cooked in front of them from scratch as it being an open kitchen with this the entire space is filled with wonderful aromas and the food is served piping hot in the cute all-American style disposable cardboard box. The menu at prax isn’t too elaborate or confusing, rather to the point. Serving up favourites like starters, soups, salad, mains and desserts.

Here is our order that we tried:
Starters
- Dimsums(Chicken Siu Mai) – one of the best delicious dimsums i had in a while, all the starters are served with a tangy dipping soya sauce. The dimsums were soft, perfectly cooked and well stuffed with filling the only sad part is it only comes with 3 pieces :p
- Spring Rolls (Vegetarian and Prawn) – i tried the Vegetarian spring rolls it was delicious my other half had the Prawn spring roll that had a good sized shrimp coated in pastry. She really liked it too and both rolls were fried to perfection having crispy exterior with nice filling inside.
Soup
- Tom Yum Soup(Chicken) – it was too limey and salty for me, i didn’t liked it and the fresh herb ingredients aroma was too strong.
Mains
- Chilli Basil Beef – try this which is packed with a zesty zing in every bite (you can choose spicy or extra spicy if you can handle it :p) The egg noodles were cooked to perfection, it had generous amount of beef that was tender and thin striped, veggies were mixed and the sauce complimented the whole experience. This was my favorite from the two.
- Green Curry Chicken – it consists of mushrooms, eggplants, cherry tomato and jasmine rice and rice were soaked up accurately, loved the way it was layered not overpowering each other. The portion sizes of the mains were generously large.
Freestyle Main – We went with soba noodles (thin noodles made from buckwheat flour) never tried before was first time with Chicken as protein and mix veg toppings and for garnishing we had roasted cashew nuts. It was an experiment that that we took risk and we passed, it turned out really good 🙂
Not to good with Chopsticks, we ended up eating with fork to be on safer side hihi
Desserts (we were offered both desserts off their menu)
- Coconut & Ginger – who could have thought about this combination, not a big fan of ginger though, the base has a delicate hint of coconut, and is mixed in with crystallized ginger. Unusual but definitely worth the try.
- Date and Caramel – the best.. it was rich, creamy, delicious and left us with a reason to come back for it. You can’t leave Prax’s no matter what without having this 😀 YUM YUM YUMMMM !!
