Ramadan in Dubai 2017
Ramadan in Dubai 2017 will be starting on Saturday, May 27th 2017 which is slated to be the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Ramadan is a significant month in the Islamic calendar and in Dubai, the period is marked by a host of Ramadan-related activities. The Dubai Government organise numerous events during the month and the retail sector sees brisk business. Ramadan is one of the most significant month in every Arab country.
Emarati hospitality and traditions are also very evident during this month as Iftars are hosted across Dubai and residents of different nationalities come together to share the spirit of Ramadan. Also included annually during Ramadan are a number of educational cultural activities that aim to educate the public on what the month of Ramadan is all about and how to conduct one’s self during this holy month.
Some related events to be noted during Ramadan
- There will be the annual Holy Quran recital competitions held for students and adults with the winners earning cash prizes and more.
- Ramadan will last 29 days, with the fasting month ending on Saturday June 24, (or 30 days maximum) and Eid Al-Fitr (the holiday that celebrates the breaking of the fast) beginning on Sunday June 25 (or if 30 days fasting, then June 26th will be Eid-Al-Fitr).
- Remember, during Ramadan, UAE labour law stipulates that all workers are entitled to work two hours less each day (and yet still be compensated for a standard day, which according to labour law is eight hours). However, non-Muslims working in DIFC are not entitled to the extra two hours off due to the area following its own labour laws.
